Keepers in Atlanta
KEEPERS OF MEMORY FILM
Sunday, June 11, 4:45 p.m., GSU Speakers Auditorium.

This is a film about the complex, difficult relationship between remembering and letting go.
DIRECTOR: ERIC KABERA
BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE Directed by internationally acclaimed director Eric Kabera, 'Keepers of Memory' is the first film by Rwandan filmmakers about the 1994 genocide. Using a simple, unobtrusive documentary style, Kabera introduces us to the 'keepers,' men and women who watch over the massacre sites — people who have become custodians not only of the dead, but also of the memories. By taking on the labor of preserving these unconventional graves, the keepers make a conscious choice to bear witness to the horrific events of 1994 and transmit the full story to future generations, but their unique place in Rwandan society also affords them the opportunity to fully comprehend the need for reconciliation.

There will be a discussion after the film with Director Eric Kabera, CNN’s Jim Clancy and Rwandan genocide survivor Norah Bagirinka. Sunday, June 11, 4:45 p.m., GSU Speakers Auditorium.

Far more effective and haunting than the theatrical release Hotel Rwanda, Eric Kabera’s documentary on the 1994 Rwanda genocide features survivors whose stories are equal parts harrowing and heartbreaking. Educational Media Reviews Online- January 12, 2006
