FILM SYNOPSIS Rwanda | Run time: 54 min. | Director: Eric Kabera

SOUTHEAST PREMIERENOMINEE – BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE Directed by internationally acclaimed director Eric Kabera, 'Keepers of Memory' is the first film by Rwandan filmmakers about the 1994 genocide. Using a simple, unobtrusive documentary style, Kabera introduces us to the 'keepers,' men and women who watch over the massacre sites — people who have become custodians not only of the dead, but also of the memories. By taking on the labor of preserving these unconventional graves, the keepers make a conscious choice to bear witness to the horrific events of 1994 and transmit the full story to future generations, but their unique place in Rwandan society also affords them the opportunity to fully comprehend the need for reconciliation.
